The Office of the Chief Economic Adviser provides expert advice and recommendations to the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and the government of Imo State on economic issues.
Our Strategic Approach
To achieve this objective, the Office, led by Professor Kenneth Amaeshi, employs a range of strategic approaches, including:
- Conducting research on economic issues to identify opportunities and challenges.
- Monitoring economic trends and developments to ensure timely and informed interventions.
- Implementing economic programmes and projects in collaboration with government agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders.
- Fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the Office to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.
Since January 2022
Since Professor Kenneth Amaeshi resumed as Chief Economic Adviser, the Office has achieved significant milestones, initiating and implementing policies and programmes that boost economic activity in Imo State.
Under the leadership of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser drives economic growth in Imo State. By promoting entrepreneurship, attracting investment, and creating opportunities, we aim to build a vibrant, inclusive economy where every citizen can thrive.
What We Have Done
These include the Imo Economy Study Network (the TIES Network), which studies the Imo economy through a bi monthly webinar; the One Kindred One Business Initiative (ÓKÓBÌ), for grassroots business empowerment; and the Imo Industrial Policy, geared towards making industries work for all.

The TIES Network studies the Imo economy and discusses its potentials in a bi monthly webinar known as the TIES webinar, bringing together progressive minds across the state.

His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma
Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma is the Executive Governor of Imo State, first sworn in on 15 January 2020 and elected to a second term in 2023. Before becoming Governor, he served two terms in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Imo West from 2011 to 2019, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Customs and Excise.
A businessman before entering public life, he leads Imo State under his agenda of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery, with industrialisation, digital technology and steady power at its centre. It is this vision that the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser was created to support.

Professor Kenneth Amaeshi
Professor Kenneth Amaeshi is a leading scholar in sustainable business and finance in the global south. He holds a Chair in Sustainable Finance and Governance at the School of Transnational Governance, European University Institute, Italy. He is also Chair in Sustainable Business at the University of Edinburgh, UK, and he is the Chief Economic Adviser to the Imo State Government.
